Positive start to 2017 for the UK manufacturing industry
The manufacturing industry has seen a strong start to 2017, there have been various reports to demonstrate the financial stability and growth in the sector. A recent CBI survey reports acceleration in manufacturing output with order books the highest since February 2015. http://www.acr-news.com/cbi-survey-reports-acceleration-in-manufacturing-output
The Q2 2017 manufacturing outlook survey produced by EEF and BDO pointed to a continued confidence that manufacturing will enjoy further expansion into the second half of this year. http://www.britishplastics.co.uk/News/eef-and-bdo-survey-shows-positive-trends-across-uk-manufactu/
Smart factories seem to one of the biggest areas of investment for manufacturing businesses with the advent of industry 4.0, the aerospace and defence sectors are leading the way. These factories of the future will benefit from huge reduction in operational costs as a result of productivity and efficiency improvements.
Additive manufacturing (AM) is also firmly established with aerospace and medical industries pushing ahead with developments in this area. Utilising AM full-size medical and aero products can be produced. With a focus more on design, than the technology behind AM, this is another area that will continue to see growth.
Connected factories are also aiding in UK manufacturing output and productivity, this is an area we have invested in at SSP with our bespoke IT system allowing us to monitor the status of our customers’ orders from various devices around the factory floor.
The Government’s industrial strategy will also support and develop further the UK’s manufacturing developments.
Tim Page, Managing Director at SSP said “we’ve had a fantastic 12 months, our orders have increased and the UK manufacturing sector as a whole has seen productivity increase. We are looking forward to investing further in our spring manufacturing business”.
